Crown Updates

Well, now we can thank ancestry DNA for potentially connecting us to another Crown branch, namely the descendants of Brigid Crown. According to a hand-drawn family tree located in recent years, Brigid was a daughter of Richard Crown and Sarah Meehan, and she married somebody of the surname Travers, and they lived in Dromahair.  We have found record that Brigid apparently married Loughlin (Lacky) Malachi Travers, and one of their children, Sarah Travers, emigrated to St. Louis some time around 1890. In fact, further study reveals that possibly two other siblings of Sarah Travers had emigrated to St. Louis before Sarah!  It's exciting to connect with this St. Louis branch!

I would also like to report that we have located somebody who is very likely a living descendant in the John Crown branch (Crown's of Manorhamilton). He lives in County Sligo today and has some relations in Manorhamilton who might be able to help us fill in some gaps and confirm that this branch also descends from Richard Crown and Sarah Meehan. If this is true, then, astoundingly, we have pieced together quite a large picture of our Crown relations and their stories are now represented far and wide. All of this is happy news as far as I'm concerned because, at least in my branch, the Crown history was close to being lost. Now we know much more exactly who our Irish ancestors were, and by learning their characters and their stories, isn't it a bit like welcoming them home? Or is it them welcoming us?
